Alexander Gross, M.D., Director of Georgia Dermatology Center in Cumming, Georgia and chairman of the laser licensing committee associated with the 2009 Medical and Laser Act, takes a brief moment to explain what Micro Laser Peels are, what ProFractional Therapy is and how these procedures can improve the appearance of your skin. Dr. Gross explains, “The Sciton Erbium Laser can be used to do two different treatments. The first treatment is something called ProFractional laser resurfacing which drills tiny little holes to the skin. The word “fractional” means that we’re only resurfacing a fraction of the skin’s surface area. This is a treatment that we use for treating acne scars and fine and deep wrinkles and is an excellent way to go ahead and tighten the skin and give it a young and refreshed appearance.”
Dr. Gross continues, “The other treatment that we can do with this laser is something called the Micro Laser Peel. This peel is skin resurfacing that involves literally peeling the skin away layer by layer. The Micro Laser Peel is a procedure that we use for getting rid of brown spots and for tightening pores and also for treating fine lines and wrinkles. The beautiful thing about this machine is that regardless of whether we are doing a Micro Laser Peel or a ProFractional resurfacing, we can set the frequency on the laser to do a deeper , more aggressive treatment for people who have more significant issues or we can do very light, mild mellow treatments for patients whose issues are not as significant. The down time can be one or two days for the lighter treatments and as long as five to six days for the more aggressive treatment.”
